Word count so far today: 39,158.
Word count goal for today? Oh, 42,000 or so, hopefully. I'll definitely make it to 40,000 by the end of the day, but I'm going to try to get some major writing done today and tomorrow, before Thanksgiving hits and then I have to start thinking about final exams and ten page papers and making the 50k deadline before the 30th is over. I want at least a little bit of wiggle room before the 30th hits.

One thing that I've found really helps my writing is a prompt that I found somewhere on the NaNoWriMo forums: write a 500 word sentence.
It adds to my word count, and forces me to describe the scene more than I normally would. I'm usually a very action-oriented writer, just actions and dialogue and little extra description, so scenes can go by pretty fast if I'm not careful. Forcing myself to keep writing a sentence until I hit 500 words makes me slow down and really think about adding as much as I possibly can to a scene. It's really nice for setting up locations, too.

LOL 500 word sentence? Oh, my goodness... *thud*

Anyway, OMG YOU'RE DOING SO WELL! I MEAN, 40K ALMOST!? Dude, you're catching up to me! :D *is currently somewhere at 42k with plans to churn out 3k tonight to get to 45k*

HA! I did it! Just passed 40k! Write or Die (http://lab.drwicked.com/writeordie.html) helps quite a lot. Have you ever used it?

And look at you! 42,000! Congratulations! ^_^ Good luck on getting to 45!

(I do realize there was an overabundance of exclamation points in this post.)

OMG I'm so going to have to use that now! I've never even heard of it until now--thank you so much! I'm going to look into it after work, and see if I can do well using it. :D (The Kamikaze mode sounds fun, heeee.)

Thanks! :D I'm feeling pretty confident about reaching it... that is, if I don't get terribly distracted (because it's a horrible habit!)

Yeah, it's really fun. I think I'd vaguely heard of it before, but I just googled it tonight and used it for the first time. Actually, I've used it three or four times tonight so far. It's great for keeping you on track. And even if I'm just sitting there writing "I don't know what to write", I keep writing anyway and eventually I come up with something. Love it. ^_^

It IS great! It's even better than a word war. I mean, I had no idea what to write about, so I had my characters play twenty questions (even though it is set in 1857!!). hee. XD

Lol. Nice idea. Maybe I should try that one. I have about 450 words left to get to 42,000, and I'm taking a Buffy break instead of writing my NaNo. I'm so bad...
