Cowboyguy's "Starting Over" Supernatural meme! (prompts post)
Alright, here goes...

Hi, everyone! Welcome to my first ever Supernatural commentfic meme! In honor of the fact that I'm going to be moving soon, the theme of this meme is "starting over." God knows the Winchesters have been separated and reunited, argued and apologized, died and been brought back enough times, so I figure we've got lots of source material to start from. As long as there's something along this general theme, I don't care what you do. It can range from, "Hey, let's fix this apocalypse we started." to "Sammy, I'm sorry, I've been a total jerk today. Want a pizza?" (And who doesn't love a good curtainfic?) And, because it's me, any h/c you add in there can never, ever be a bad thing. No mpreg, though, because it generally squicks me. And warn for various levels of kink or possible triggers, just in case. Besides that, do what you want, and we'll operate under the "don't like, don't read" policy.
So here's what you do:
1. Post prompts. As many prompts as you like, one per comment. Seriously, there is no such thing as too many prompts.
2. Especially since we're getting closer to season 10, warn for spoilers. Since I have some friends who still haven't seen season 9, I'm gonna count that as spoiler-y, too. Anything up through the end of 8, though, we'll assume everyone has seen.
3. Any pairings or non-pairings you want. Wincest, gen, Destiel, whatever.
4. Fill the prompts! All the prompts! Fill as many prompts as you want, and multiple fills for one prompt are totally okay. Either post it as a reply to the original comment, or post with a link to the fic.
5. (Pssst! Share this with your friends. The more people, the better!)
6. Prompting and posting will continue either as long as people are interested, or until I'm drowned in a sea of fic. No deadlines on fics, either. We can wait. :)
7. Everybody have fun, be nice, and have an awesome time!
Let the prompting begin!

FILLED Like Old Times 3/3
“How did they do?” Sam asked Ms Roslyn when she was free of other parents who were no doubt asking the same question of their own little angels, “They did fine. Cas got a little quiet and looked upset when another boy took out his Cars lunchbox but Dean quickly distracted him. They have one another to help them through the tragedy and that makes all the difference in the world.”
“They help me too,” said Sam, “I've been too busy to get lost in grief. You sound like you speak from experience...”
“I... oh. I guess... I...” she wondered at how Sam had inferred that from her tone, “My daughter and I... I lost my husband about half a year ago. This is my first semester back.”
“I'm sorry to hear. How old is your girl?”
“Thirteen. She acts like she's taking it well but I can tell she's hurting. I hear her talking to him still. Some nights I swear I hear him talking back, but that's not possible of course, just the mind playing tricks.”
“Sometimes we hear what we want to hear,” agreed Sam, not quite believing it himself; something about the way she sounded like she was struggling to convince herself that she wasn't hearing her dead husband was setting off haunted warning bells.
Just then Den and Cas came out to greet Sam. Cas reached out for a hug, and started babbling excitedly, “There's a sandbox loaded with dinosaurs and we're allowed to play with it as long as we want during free hour! It's so cool, the sand is red, and there are rocks made out of lava, igneous rocks, all full off little holes.”
“I take it you enjoyed your first day?” Sam chuckled, hugging Cas and patting Dean on the head before taking both boys by the hands and setting off for home. He turned back to nod at Ms Roslyn who was already busy with another parent.
“Yep,” said Dean.
“Did you make any friends?”
“I did!” said Cas, “Her name is Maria, and Liam too, he just moved here and he's really cool, his dad is a pilot!”
“The teacher's house is haunted,” said Dean.
“How do you know that?” asked Sam.
“I was heard you talking to her and some of the stuff she said in class... just little things... she's tired and distracted. We should help her.”
“So we should do a ghost hunt?”
“Yep,” Dean nodded, “Old fashioned salt 'n burn prolly.”
“Okay, sounds good. How should we begin?” Sam asked. It was a bit of like old times, planning a hunt with his brother, Castiel tagging along, only this time they'd probably need a nap when they got home before they could start planning. Oh yeah, just like old times.
Re: FILLED Like Old Times 3/3
But I loved the way you wrote it -- Cas's enthusiasm and excitement about everything, and Dean being a little more reserved and quiet. And their personalities, that are just a little bit more adult than regular kids. I can just imagine Cas rambling on and on about all the things he knows. And “Old fashioned salt 'n burn prolly.”? Probably my new favorite sentence. Little five-year-old Dean planning hunting strategies. Awwww.
...I kind of want to see more of these guys. (psst! What if maybe one night there's a really bad thunderstorm, and Dean is maybe a little scared, but he'll never admit it?) :D
Anyway, great job! Loved it!
